Assurance (10 Essentials to the Christian Life)

Assurance - The divinely given confidence of the believer that he or she is truly saved. Being certain in mind with a freedom from doubt.

* One of Satan's greatest tricks is to cause believers to doubt their salvation.

The Greek word for Assurance or Know is "Eido"...It means to be sure of; to understand; to have confidence; to be resolved.

1. Meditate on and discuss keywords and phrases in the following scriptures:

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand." John 10:27-29

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39

"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace." Ephes. 1:7

"For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." Philip. 1:6

"Who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." 1 Peter 1:5

"These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life." 1 John 5:13

Where there is uncertainty concerning how salvation is attained, there will be confusion over whether it can be maintained. Having assurance allows us to take risk.

There was a very cautious man who never laughed or played. He never risked, he never tried, he never sang or prayed. And when one day he passed away, his insurance was denied. For since he never really lived, they claimed he never really died.

2. What gives you a sense of assurance?

3. What, if anything, are you willing do die for?

4. How would you explain to a friend the hope that is within you?

5. Which of these promises do you need to claim at this time in your life?
(Refer to the above scriptures)

6. In what ways can you express confidence in God's promises this week?

7. Write out in your own words 1 John 5:13. Memorize 1 John 5:13.
