I Peter 1:1-2: "Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to Gods elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance."
Todays meditation is going to be a little different. I want to do a little teaching here because this is an issue that comes before us often when talking to various cults.
In these verses we see the triunity of the God-head affirmed. At the baptismal service recorded in Matthew 3:16-17, the presence of Jesus, the presence of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, and the presence of the voice of God from heaven clearly indicate the existence of three distinct persons who are of one essence, God. Historically, the church has been compelled to repudiate errors in this theology.
Scriptures claim that:
1) there is but one God (Deut. 6:4);
2) He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit three persons in one essence all from eternity (John 1:1, Eph. 1:2-14); and
3) the three persons of the Godhead are fully God (Acts 5:3, Col. 2:9).
In this passage we see that salvation is the result of the cooperative activities of God the Fathers foreknowledge affected by the work of the Holy Spirit and based upon the sprinkling of the blood of Christ. This is what produces salvation in man.
Meditate On This!
Meditate on this because it is a "heavy". Look up the Scriptures above and spend the week thinking about the triune God we serve.
