Proper Prayer

And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:29-31)

What kind of prayer do you have to pray that leads to God answering with an earthquake? As I read through these beginnings of the early church, I can feel their passion and persistence in such a way that I begin to envy these early followers. These men had tasted the Lord, the Holy Spirit, and now they were addicted.

Are you addicted to the presence and power of our great God?

For these men, to live at all meant to proclaim His name.

An astonishing testimony of their desire to spread the gospel is found in the way these men prayed. They asked that God would look upon the threats that they were facing for proclaiming His name and grant them more boldness to keep proclaiming. They don’t pray for protection; just more boldness and power to make God's name great among the people. They were not concerned about personal health, wealth or safety - they sought God's glory above anything and everything else.

Lord, help my unbelief! And please fill me with Your Spirit in a way that grants me the single-minded focus of living for nothing else than the advancement of Your glory.

These men literally exhibited a faith that moved some mountains. The heart of their prayer was so aligned with the will of God that He answered their prayer for boldness with some proof of His mighty presence.

Lord, grant me a passion for You that experiences Your power through a proper prayer.
