Is there anything more reassuring than to know that the Almighty Creator over all of creation has chosen to be with us? God had promised his presence all throughout human history and delivered on those promises in the various ways that he guided and protected his people.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines confidence as “full trust; belief in the power, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing.” As professional athletes, confidence is often developed through the persistent challenging and testing of our athletic abilities. Over time, we reach a certain point where we aren’t afraid of stepping up to the plate when the game is on the line because we have been through this a thousand times before and proven that we possess the strength and ability to come through in the clutch.
Over the course of this past week, my daily Scripture reading led me to read through the book written by the prophet named Habakkuk. This short book is broken down into three chapters, but it filled up the pages of my journal with thoughts. I began to place myself in the shoes of this great prophet and tried to imagine what it would have been like to experience my country being conquered by the ancient Babylonian Empire.
Aren’t we all just instruments in God's hand used by God for God's sovereign purposes? We are the instruments, He is the Author; and the power to accomplish His purposes is in His power alone. Far too often, we fall into the trap of assuming we bring a lot to the dance. We look at our unique gifts and assume they must be the reason God chose us for His work rather than realizing that we possess these unique gifts because God is already using us.
