Everyone Did What Was Right In Their Own Eyes

Jul 13, 2026    Ted Barrett

In this week's episode, Teddy reminds us that the book of Judges doesn't sanitize the human condition, but rather, it exposes what happens when people abandon God and forget their identity in Him.

Looking at the life of Samson and others, Teddy highlights the compromises and choices that led to their downfall, challenging us to examine our own lives in light of the identity God has given us.

Finally, he points to the twice repeated refrain that everyone "did what was right in their own eyes" as both a warning and a hope: no matter how far we've drifted, God is ready to forgive and restore those who turn back to Him.

Digging Deeper Reflection Questions:

1. Where in my life am I tempted to do "what is right in my own eyes" instead of submitting to God's authority?

2. Like Samson, have a series of small compromises slowly pulled me away from the identity God has given me?

3. What would change in the second half if I lived from my identity as God's beloved child instead of trying to prove or protect myself?

We pray this week’s readings, episode, and Digging Deeper reflection questions both challenge and encourage you as you continue to grow in your faith.
