Striving After The Wind

In this week’s episode, Mickey takes us through 1 Kings 9–10 and Ecclesiastes 1–8. Solomon has finished building the temple and his own house, and God meets with him again, reminding him of His promises and warning him not to turn aside from following Him. Solomon’s wisdom and wealth continue to grow beyond those who came before him and those who will come after him.

Mickey explores what Solomon does with the great wisdom he has been given as a gift from God. In Ecclesiastes 1–8, Solomon begins to show us how his wisdom did not always direct his desires. Instead, he allowed his desires to shape the direction of his life. God gives us good gifts to enjoy, but we cannot allow those gifts to become gods in our lives.

Mickey encourages us to take an honest look at our own lives and ask whether any of God’s good gifts have become gods for us. As we listen to Solomon’s reflections, we can learn from his wisdom and from the ways he allowed his desires to lead him away from God.
